Lawyering Beyond Borders: A Window Into the Practice of International Criminal Law at the International Criminal Court and Other International Tribunals
On Friday, October 21, 2011, IJP founders, Wanda M. Akin, Esq. and Raymond M. Brown, Esq., presented a program at the New York City Bar Association. The program consisted of three segments: (1) a description of the practical legal challenges facing American lawyers in international courts, (2) an analysis of the current legal issues faced by the ICC and other international courts, and (3) a detailed analysis of the representation of victims before the ICC. Changing the World One Leader at a Time: IJP Founder Raymond M. Brown Presented with Thurgood Marshall College Fund Award of Excellence
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund 11th Annual Awards of Excellence recognized IJP co-founder Raymond M. Brown at its annual dinner on Thursday, March 24, 2011. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), named for the U.S. Supreme Court’s first African-American Justice, endeavors to “prepare a new generation of leaders” by offering financial support to students attending the member schools of the TMCF. Awards of Excellence are presented to individuals who share this commitment to education. This year, the Fund also honored Barbara Bell Coleman, Jerry Izenberg, Lawrence S. New Jersey City University’s 2010-2011 Lecture Series
On February 14, 2011, IJP co-founders, Wanda M. Akin and Raymond M. Brown, gave a lecture, entitled “International Justice Matters in Your Life: From Sierra Leone to Darfur to You,” at the New Jersey City University’s 2010-2011 University Lecture Series. The lecture focused on the roles within international criminal law and how to get involved.
January 2011 Keynote Address at Pace University School of Law’s Genocide Awareness Week
Wanda M. Akin and Raymond M. Brown delivered the keynote address at Genocide Awareness Week on January 28, 2011. Genocide Awareness Week is organized annually at Pace University School of Law and occurs adjacent to the Pace/ICLN International Criminal Court Moot. Victims’ Rights Event at the UN: Raymond Brown Comments on the Merits and Challenges of Victims’ Participation
On December 6, 2010, the ninth session of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) opened in New York, USA. In an event entitled “Victims’ Participation before the ICC,” organized by the Victims’ Rights Working group (VRWG), panelists Silvana Arbia, ICC Registrar; Carla Ferstman, REDRESS; Robert Falay Yuma, Synergie Congolaise pour les Victimes; and Raymond Brown, ICC Legal Representative of Victims spoke about victims’ participation in ICC proceedings.
